The basalt mineral wool is an inorganic product, obtained by means of centrifuging the melt
of basalt with dolomite under the form of delicate elastic fiber agglomerations with open
structure. Adding a binder (phenol formaldehyde thermal rigid), more products with different
form and different density are obtained.
Due to their excellent physical-chemical performances, the basalt mineral wool products are
used for all types of heat insulating and sound reduction between -50° centigrade and
700° centigrade and 1000° centigrade (they keep their heat insulating capacity at
best values up to 700° centigrade and up to 1000° centigrade at moderate values).
Advantages
Energy saving - heat insulating
The main feature of basalt mineral wool products is the reduced value of thermal conductivity
coefficient (for temperatures between 4-10° centigrade depending on the model λ = 0,035 - 0,039
W/ Mk). The smaller the value is, the more reduced is the value of the heat transfer between
indoors and outdoors. Therefore the whole family will enjoy the low costs for heating.
Different fields of applications
The mineral wool products are excellent heat insulating materials used for: fireproof insulating
and sound-absorbing, buildings insulations (outside and inside walls, bridging, attics, and
terraces) industrial buildings made of reinforced concrete or metal, refrigerating units,
industrial units at high temperature, heat insulating and sound reduction used for
domestic use equipments, vehicles, ships and pipes.

The choice of the mineral wool product used for heat insulating, sound reduction and fire
protection shall be made according to the execution project.
Comfort
Made of fibrous structure, delicate and elastic fibers, with open structure which
facilitates the air circulation, the mineral wool provides a comfortable climate
in the dwelling house.
Sound reduction
The mineral wool is one of the best sound insulators (used in domains of frequencies
250÷6000Hz), depending on the product and its thickness. The fibrous structure and
porosity (90-96%) of mineral wool products provide the best sound reduction. A 200-mm
felt layer leads to 42dB silencing (10 dB means half of the sound intensity).
Fire security- reaction against fire
The basalt mineral wool is a non-combustible product (Euro class A1) Therefore the
mineral wool products do not burn nor give off toxic gases. At temperatures between
-50° centigrade and + 250° centigrade (volatilization temperature of the binder),
the mineral wool products keep their heat insulating proprieties, their elasticity
and mechanical resistances in normal conditions. They can reach 1000° centigrade,
but at higher temperatures, fibers are destroyed.
Durability
The loss of mineral wool thickness during 10 years time is about 2, 5 mm. Made of
basalt and having a remarkable hydrolytic stability the mineral wool isn't
destroyed by alkalis or acids (no chemical and biological reaction). Moreover,
it does not corrode and is not attacked. The mineral wool products do not contain
salts water-soluble and they cannot be destroyed by microorganisms, insects or rodents.
Health and environment
The mineral wool has a vitreous-amorphous structure; it doesn't contain crystallized
material under the form of asbestos. It is safe for human's health and for the
environment because it doesn't give off toxic gases or other harmful substances.
Mechanical resistances and stability
The density of the products is between 30-160 kg/ mc growing up with the quantity of
the binder added and the press of the mineral wool during their manufacture. This
feature is different for each type of product. Density explains the mechanical
features of the mineral wool products that are usually used for heat insulating
and sound reduction under static load.
The high density and the intermediate density rigid boards resist to 10.000
N/square meters static loads.
Waterproofness
The mineral wool is a waterproof product (no water absorption and no chemical
reaction with it).
The hydrofobisation of the products takes place by addition of special
substances used in this process. Due to their fibrous structure with open pores,
the mineral wool keeps temporarily the water depending on the product and its
contact with water. The retained water is removed easily.
Usage
The mineral wool products are handy, and compatible with common building materials.
